Measure the City with Feet, and Prove Yourself with Sweat

I’ll have to start my story to pursue my Sports Dream with the Dalian International Marathon (DIM). From 2010 to 2018, I’ve secured a spot in DIM for eight consecutive years. The event will also come to its 31st birthday on May 13. As a signature of the city, DIM has inspired one generation of local residents after another for its remarkable achievements registered in the past three decades. Growing up along with the blossom of this activity, I have developed a profound feeling to the city and the marathon. With a role played in the market development and branding for this year’s DIM, I’m bent on bringing new vigor to the event in terms of the branding, market, marketing and communications.

Rebirth through Painstaking Struggles!

2018 turns out a year of rebirth for DIM. While the event passed its 31st birthday yesterday, the organizing committee particularly invited 67 top-notch athletes from abroad to lift the competition and splendor of the event to a higher level. Eventually, around 30,000 athletes from different regions and countries took part in the match, with 422 from abroad and 9600 from other cities or provinces, and over 60,000 local citizens cheered for all participants on site. For those completing the entire route, EDWIN KIBET KOECH from Kenya first crossed the finishing line in 2:09:44, followed by his two compatriots – WILLY NGELEL KIPLANGAT in 2:10:31 and HABTAMU AGGA WEGI in 2:12:17. For females running across the whole route, SEYFU MULU SEBOKA from Ethiopia outperformed all others in 2:28:59, with Kenyan rivals MUKHWANA EDNAH following up in 2:32:07 and TANUI RODAH JEPKORIR in 2:32:54. It is well worth noting that all the top 3 male athletes this year broke the event record, 336 participants in other groups set a new record for their marathon career and 517 redefined their scores in this event.

Favorable Time and Space for a Prominent Event!

Nearly half of the contestants come from outside the city. It is the sports gene of the city and the perseverance of this event that usher in those participants. Besides, outstanding hardware and supporting facilities also contribute to making this a fascinating event. “I like it so much. It’s gorgeous to run here in Dalian. It is my place of fortune.” the male champion commented. Without quality operation for the past 31 years, DIM couldn’t be what it is today. It’s reported that some 60,000 citizens cheered by the lane voluntarily yesterday, and some even took off their clothes to put on athletes who failed to fetch their own wears. A tiny mark tells a whole story. This simply symbolizes DIM is on an ascending trend.

Perfect Sea-view Lanes.

Running from the East Harbor and Harbor Square, through Renmin Rd and Zhongshan Rd, to the Xinghai Square, this east-west artery links major spots of the city. Superb sea views, beautiful city landscape and neat lanes make DIM a route crossing the most squares. Generally all contestants reckoned it an eye-catching and comfortable route. The 67-year-old Liu Su, the only person who never missed a single event for the past 31 years, reckoned that “I’ve witnessed the entire development of the event for the past three decades. This year I took my 31st participation and registered a score of 3:24:35. I truly appreciate the sponsors for offering so great lanes to all the contestants.”

Through the lanes, players broke the records kept for so long to raise the DIM scores to an unprecedented level. Speaking of the marketing, we proposed the philosophy of“Joint Sponsorship via In-depth Cooperation”to comprehensively upgrade this year’s sponsor system. Via 21 onsite brands with long-term cooperation tie with DIM, all sponsor brands were thoroughly exposed to the spotlight. Under joint efforts of all parties, we rewarded partners this year with great media exposure, extensive publicity and maximized values.

Content Marketing for Spiritual Resonance!

With respect to the branding, apart from the authorized report by CCTV, we also launched multi-dimension“content marketing”campaign before the event. Endorsed with“Run in Dalian”, we raised a series of exciting slogans. With this touching content marketing, we passed DIM’s spirit to inspire the city and citizens to challenge and transcend themselves to more people, thus gradually shaping the DIM culture and rendering DIM a major sports IP acclaimed by fans.

Follow Initial Motivation to Run ahead!

31 years are long enough to do or change a great many things. DIM spent her 31 years doing the only thing. Rooted in each local resident’s mind as a DIM Dream, the event acts as the city name-card, carries memories and pride of Dalian people and offers momentum for the city to constantly move ahead. Inspired by DIM, I’ll follow my initial motivation to run ahead, and devote myself to my beloved sports. I’ll measure the city with my feet and prove myself with my sweat!
